Olaszrizling
Pronunciation: “Oh-lahss reez-ling”
Taste
Olaszrizling wines are less aromatic than their better-known namesake. Wines can range from light and fresh, with citrus and green apple flavors, to more complex, oily, and structured expressions with notes of peach, apricot, and minerality. The grape tends to have moderate acidity and a clean, crisp finish.
Where It’s Grown and Styles
Olaszrizling is grown across Hungary, particularly around Lake Balaton and in regions like Badacsony and Balatonfüred-Cscopak. It can be made in a range of styles, from fresh and easy-drinking to more serious, oak-aged wines.
Cool Fact
Olaszrizling is one of Hungary’s most widely planted grapes, and, despite its name, it has no genetic relation to Riesling.
