Somló (pronounced “shom-lo”) is a tiny yet mighty wine region in Hungary, famed for its volcanic soils and the distinctive Juhfark variety. Known as the “wedding night wine” for its supposed heir-producing qualities, Somló’s whites are serious, age-worthy, and structured, with flinty, salty notes and high acidity. These wines, best enjoyed at a warmer temperature, are often compared to white Burgundy for their depth and complexity.
