Nose

Concentrated nose of sweet blackcurrant, ripe black plum with eucalyptus freshness.

Palate

Rich and dense palate with blackberry jam, blackcurrant and leather flavors. Beautifully balanced oak flavors of sweet tobacco and leather that balance the wine’s concentrated black fruit aromas. Full bodied with elegance and vibrancy.

Growing Conditions

Rollercoaster-like vintage that produced inky wines with balanced tannins and acidity. The 2019 vintage started after the driest winter in 10 years and with an earlier-than expected bud break. Then the warm and cool weather waves happened in a roller coaster fashion: warm early-spring, cold late-spring; cold early-summer, warm late-summer; cold early-autumn, warm late-autumn. Grapes for rosé were picked very early, while grapes for red wines were picked relatively late.

Bled of two the estate-grown vineyards: Csukma and Makár. These neighbouring vineyards are located in the colder are of Siklós. Grapes grown in Csukma vineyards are only used for premium wines while Makár is the heart-and-soul of our Siklós style blends.

Winemaking

After thorough selection of the hand-picked clusters, the grapes were de-stemmed and after a couple of hours of pre-fermentative cold soak, the fermentation started. Fermented happened in stainless steel tanks. After 28 days of skin-contact, the wine was gently pressed.

Aging

Aged for 17 months in 225-liter French barrels. Aged in second-use barrels mostly, with a small percentage of new oak as well.
