Growing Conditions

Our press house is surrounded by our 23-year-old Kadarka plantation. For years, we have been patiently waiting for the Kadarka season to arrive: a drought-free vintage in which the crop ripens perfectly and shows off the variety at its best.

The year started with a mild winter, outdoor work was not hindered by the cold weather, and pruning work went according to plan. The Nyéki-hegy vines did not suffer from frost damage either, as a result of which the subsequent bud burst was even. The spring was cool, the summer was mild, and the autumn was exceptionally beautiful. Thanks to this weather, there was moderate shoot growth, the foliage did not thicken, the clusters were in the sun almost the entire time, so no rot occurred during ripening, which is exceptional for Kadarka.

Soil composition: Loess, red clay – high lime content

Area size: 0.4 hectares

Vineyard: Nyéki Hill

Average yield : 1 kg / head

Harvest

The fully ripe, organically grown grapes were harvested on September 20. A total of 800 bottles were made from them.

Winemaking

After the hand harvest, we spontaneously fermented it, producing a total of 800 bottles.

After picking, we fermented in an open vat, with manual crushing for 10 days. Fermentation and malic acid decomposition took place evenly and naturally. We soaked the grapes on the skins for 13 days, without maceration, until pressing. The first two pressings took place before bottling. This exceptionally varietal, fruity Kadarka was bottled unfiltered.
