Nose

Minerality.., toasted and citrus aromas with wet stone and flint notes.

Palate

Lively on the palate, explosive and multi-layered, the freshness of Furmint shines through the beautifully creamy texture of oak barrel aging and lasts for a long time.

Growing Conditions

Razor-sharp and crisp wines were born in 2021. It is one of the coldest vintages we have produced, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Especially good vintage for sparkling wines due to their freshness and age ability. The below-average rainfall (450 mm) helped produce wines with intense concentration yet great freshness due to the cold early summer and early autumn.

Birsalmás vineyard has a special place in our hearts. We produce three single-vineyard, single-variety wines from this vineyard: Birsalmás Pinot Noir, Birsalmás Chardonnay and Birsalmás Furmint. It is in the highly esteemed Mád area, just next to the famous Úrágya vineyard. This southern-exposure, terraced vineyard is one of the most photogenic plots in the whole region. Its rich volcanic rhyolite soil gives an intense minerality to the wines and a sense of freshness. It is one of our most special vineyards for dry wine production.

Winemaking

After hand harvest, the pre-chilled grapes were destemmed, gently crushed, and left to soak with its skins for 6 hours before pressing to extract more pure fruit aromas. After the fermentation in stainless steel tanks, 80% of the wines were aged in 500-liter French oak barrels and 20% was aged in granite eggs and stainless-steel tanks.

70% of the wine went through malolactic conversion.

Aging

5 months of ageing time with regular battonage. 30% of the oak barrels were new.
