A brief history
I am Gábor Kardos, and I have been running our family winery, Kardos Szőlőbirtok, together with my father, since 2008. My father is responsible for the viticulture, and the winery and everything else belongs to me. Our family has a tradition of grape growing for hundreds of years. We currently farm 14 hectares in Mád, a key settlement in the world-famous and World Heritage-listed Tokaj wine region, where grapes and wine have provided a livelihood for the families living here for generations.
We work with a clean, clear offering, and wine lovers can get to know Mád and the high quality inherent in the special Tokaj growing region through our wines.
We work with the dominant and traditional grape varieties of the wine region, Furmint, Hárslevelű and Yellow Muscat, from which we make characteristic dry white wines and late-harvest dessert wines. Our pride is the world-famous Tokaji Aszú, which we produce exclusively in excellent vintages and in limited quantities. We consider our latest such batch, the 2013 Hatputtonyos Tokaji Aszú, to be our top wine.
Keeping in mind the centuries-old tradition and premium quality, we strive to present the unique characteristics of our excellent vineyards through careful cluster selection, crop limitation and selective multiple harvests.
Our wines can be found at more and more of our partners, renowned restaurants, wine bars, and retailers at home and abroad. We hope that more and more people will get to know Mád and the Tokaj wine region through us and our wines!
In 2012, I was honored to be elected as a member of the Junibor Association, a group of young Hungarian winemakers, where I was among renowned winemakers who will become a defining member of the Hungarian winemaking community in the coming decades.
