Winemaking
I regard Barbár as one of the most valuable legacies from my parents. Its foundation comes from our first vineyard, planted in 2002 on the peak of Porkoláb Valley. These vines are known as ‘French Merlot’ and ‘French Cabernet’ because we introduced small-berry Bordeaux clones. Alongside these classic international varieties, the raw power of Basque Tannat has played a significant role from the beginning. We have also used Kékfrankos from the start, for its delicate fruitiness and lightness—this was pioneering in 2006, but it has now become a hallmark of the era.
