Gere Tamás & Zsolt PincészeteAureus Cuvée

It may come as no surprise that our flagship wine was harvested from the finest vineyards of Villány, specifically the Kopár and Várerdő slopes. The vines, averaging 8-10 years old, yielded only 1 kg of fruit per plant, which was carefully picked in late October and early November of 2012. Each grape variety was harvested, fermented, and aged separately. The aging process took place primarily (70%) in second- and third-fill oak barrels, while the remaining 30% matured in new oak, including 225-liter and 500-liter barrels, predominantly made from Hungarian wood. After 30 months of maturation, we blended the cuvée with the following proportions: 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The final wine was bottled in August 2015 and carefully stored in the depths of our Villány cellar. In the glass, the wine reveals pure and captivating aromas. The interplay of forest fruits, tobacco, and well-integrated barrel spices creates the impression of a well-matured wine. On the palate, earthy and leafy notes lead the way, accompanied by restrained fruitiness. Over time, hints of coffee emerge from the toasty oak influence. The aged character and robust structure add to its complexity. With its elegance and aging potential, this wine has a bright future ahead. Production: 9,000 bottles.
