Palate

Its overflowing taste and aroma leans towards milk chocolate, rum cherries, prunes and tobacco.

Growing Conditions

Unlike previous years, the winter was very cold and dry. The constant minuses in January ensured a reduction in the development of subsequent diseases.

Severe colds were followed by rapid springing and shedding. The average daily temperatures at the end of March were higher than usual for this time.

As in 2016, the development was explosive. In April, the early warming was followed by several cooling waves, so the growth became sluggish and the phenological phases returned to the usual ones.

At the beginning of May, nearly 50 mm fell in 3 days. Unfortunately, due to the sudden warming, the rain came with ice. Fortunately, it only caused damage to the crop in a small part of the wine region. The heat in May remained throughout the summer, and in August it was almost hot, up to 39°C for days.

The relatively dry and warm weather was not conducive to diseases, so the plant protection works were mostly based on prevention, and the number of spraying rounds could also be reduced. As a whole, beautiful, ripe bunches could be harvested. Due to the warm summer, the picking of the varieties for the sparkling base and rosé wine started earlier than usual, in the second decade of August.

The good start to the harvest was interrupted by the unexpected weather in September. Unlike previous years, more precipitation fell and for several days. There wasn't a week that it didn't rain. The temperature also dropped unexpectedly, but as a result of properly timed protection, the infections did not develop.

Overall, it can be said that we were able to harvest high-quality, healthy ingredients this year.

Winemaking

A special quality wine made exclusively from the Merlot variety, selected from the Ördögár vineyard in Villány, which can only be found in outstanding vintages. The winemaker also wanted to emphasize its uniqueness with the name, since he named it after Il Magnifico Lorenzo Medici (the Hungarian equivalent of the Latin magnifico is great, wonderful). The grapes and the wine made from them must meet extraordinary expectations, such as unique taste and complexity.

Aging

Aged for 24 months in new barrique barrels.

Appearance

Ots appearance and deep dark color include all the beauty of the vintage and the terroir.

Food Pairing

Recommended for chocolate desserts, cigars and special moments.
