Palate
Extremely dark, almost black core with purple tinges at the rim. The slow moving legs indicate high viscosity. Amazing complexity with saline, mineral notes intermingling with fruit and sweet spices. The palate is dominated by aromas of plums, raspberries and sour cherries complemented by notes of dark chocolate and coffee. This is an energetic wine with the suave acidity highlighting the ripe fruit. Firm tannins provide structure and longevity. A wine with great potential for bottle ageing.
Growing Conditions
The defining feature of this year's weather was precipitation. Following a relatively dry winter rain arrived in our wine region in mid-spring, though not much. Summer was hot with a few showers. The drought resulted in an early start to the harvest (10 August). First the grapes for rosé wines, then grapes for the light reds and whites were picked and delivered to the cellar. Then, in the autumn, the long-awaited rain arrived, and after 10 days we resumed work harvesting grapes for our big reds. The final day of harvest was 13 October at our winery. Thanks to the timely interventions in the vineyards and the well-chosen harvest date, the grapes we picked were looking nice and healthy, so even though summer was very hot and dry leading to forced ripening, the rains in September brought a welcome relief and conditions turned right for the production of great red wines. We are happy to conclude that 2022 was a really exciting and promising year.
